The Crest Theatre, built in 1948, was bought by Gloria León from actors Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft in 1996. It has served as a venue for a variety of movie types, from Bruce Lee to Mexican movies and films from India, has been a meeting place for a church community, and most recently has hosted a variety of live events.
The Crest Theatre was designated last year (2010) as an historical landmark.
The Crest Theatre’s mission statement is to “serve as a multi-entertainment center to provide media entertainment and a variety of events to the Fresno, California, community, with an emphasis on serving the Hispanic community and preserving the Theatre’s historical attributes”.
